Description
UNDERSTANDING COLOSTRUM. The first few days of breast milk, called colostrum, is thick and often yellowish in color. It is very rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals. Colostrum nourishes the newborn and provides it with white blood cells and antibodies that will help it defend against infections. Colostrum also helps in the development of the intestinal flora necessary for digestion and the expulsion of meconium.
COLLECTOR. Use the suction function to suck up colostrum droplets.
TO PRESERVE. Store it in your refrigerator or freezer.
NOURISH. No need to transfer your colostrum. Feed your baby from the collector.
EXPRESSION OF COLOSTRUM. Expressing can begin at around 37 weeks of pregnancy after approval from your healthcare professional. Manually express the colostrum, gently pressing the areola between your fingers. Most often, colostrum flows drop by drop.
HYGIENE. Wash your hands thoroughly before collecting colostrum. Clean each colostrum collector before use with hot steam or by boiling in water for 2-3 minutes.
TRANSPORT. When you leave for the place of delivery, take everything in a cooler with ice packs, and the colostrum can be stored in the department's refrigerator or freezer.
